Everyone wants gasoline prices to come back down from their record highs, right? Well, not everyone. According to Accuracy in Media, writer Greg Easterbrook said in the New York Times he would like to see the government implement a 50-cent increase in the federal gas tax, which could then be used to reduce taxes for the poor and lower middle class. Of course, they would be the very people most harmed by the increased tax – but that’s another story. And in The Washington Post, writer David Ignatius claimed only a total price of $5 per gallon, such as that seen in Europe, would be enough to get Americans to use less oil. Now that’s a proposal our nation’s bicycle manufacturers must really support.
