You’ve seen hybrid cars and buses that can reduce fuel use and pollution. But now, get ready for the world’s biggest hybrid — a 2,000 horsepower locomotive called the Green Goat. Goat is a railroad term for the smaller locomotives used to move rail cars short distances. And according to Wired News, the Green Goat is capable of pulling 88 rail cars, while at the same time using up to 60% less fuel, and emitting 80-90% fewer pollutants than conventional locomotives. With a combination of diesel and electric, the Green Goat costs just $750,000, compared with one to one-and-a-half million for regular diesels. So it may soon be all-aboard for this new railyard Goat!
