Are government efforts to mandate the use of renewable energy, like that of solar or wind power, promoting good public policy? Well not according to Robert Gordon of the Heritage Foundation, who believes the free market, not the government, is the best determiner of what is, or is not, useful energy: “At best, policies that mandate renewables, like wind and solar, and stymie other energy sources, like coal and nuclear, complicate the task of figuring out just what technologies would truly be the most efficient. At worst, renewable mandates are built upon the idea that a renewable panacea is just around the corner. Such policies will ultimately generate more problems than energy, and seriously threaten a secure future for all Americans.”
