‘How the mighty have fallen!’

Michael Mann, creator of the infamous "hockey stick" graph isn't amused by a YouTube satire video featuring the refrain "hide the decline," a quote from the Climategate emails.  He's threatened to sue the video's creators. Marc Morano, editor of CFACT's award winning ClimateDepot appeared on FoxNews to discuss.Marc was asked whether he thought Mann could prove that the point the satire was making was not true.  "I don't think he can," Morano replied. "I mean, this just goes to show you how the mighty have fallen. Michael Mann was a top U.N. scientist who is now in 2010 spending his time [...]

700 Papers Supporting Climate Realism

The list continues to grow.  The consensus continues to collapse. The good folks at Popular Technology are now up to 700 scholarly papers challenging the theory of man-made global warming.  Here they are.  Here is CFACT’s coverage of the original 450. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A 2000-year global temperature reconstruction based on non-treering proxies (PDF) (Energy & Environment, Volume 18, Numbers 7-8, pp. 1049-1058, December 2007) – Craig Loehle […]

Connie Hedegaard Riposte

E.U. Climate Commissioner Connie Hedegaard  responds to CFACT CFACT’s response: Let’s not go back to the dark ages. CFACT has been participating in an energy debate sponsored by the National Journal. Commissioner Hedegaard wrote, “Craig Rucker claims that had it not been for Denmark’s oil in the North Sea we could not afford “such feel good luxuries” as renewables like wind. Wrong. Back in 1973 Denmark experienced two oil crises and the last one, when Saudi Arabia cut off oil deliveries, was so bad that it was necessary to prohibit driving private cars on Sundays. I remember this from my childhood. [...]

Italian Senate Calls for Realism on Climate

Reassessment and renegotiation Carlo Stagnaro of Istituto Bruno Leoni reports: The Italian Senate stands for climate realism. A motion passed on last Wednesday commits the Italian government to promote a sound discussion on climate policies with the European Union and the United Nations, with particular regard to the major changes that have occurred after the economic recession, the Climategate scandal, and the failure to reach a global deal in Copenhagen. In fact, the Senate asks both that the current commitments under the EU climate and energy package are re-negotiated, and that an independent investigation is started on the IPCC process. [...]

CFACT Responds to Connie Hedegaard

Anyone who tells you that restricting prosperity and redistributing wealth will alter the climate is selling something. CRAIG RUCKER EU Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard today posed the question, "can the U.S. afford not to have ambitious legislation that paves the way for a more energy-efficient future?" CFACT Executive Director Craig Rucker responded that if the US Congress fails, America wins. Commissioner Hedegaard's Denmark may have surrounded itself with wind turbines, but could not afford such feel good luxuries if it were not for the vast income and energy it derives from Danish North Sea oil and gas.  READ MORE

Nature Conservancy cashes in on questionable New York land deal

Taxpayers in New York were stunned to find out in early April that the financially-strapped state government in Albany had purchased a 20,000-acre tract of land from the nation’s wealthiest environmental group at a price far above the rural property’s assessed value. According to the New York Post (April 5, 2010), in October 2008 the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) paid the Nature Conservancy (TNC) nearly $10 million for the property in Clinton County.  The environmental group had paid just $6.3 million for the Adirondack land in January 2005. Local county and town officials were outraged to learn that the [...]

What’s the cost if Congress fails?

Commisioner Hedegaard posed this question:  "While some argue that the U.S. cannot afford climate and energy legislation, my question is: Can the U.S. afford not to have ambitious legislation that paves the way for a more energy-efficient future? We all know that we are in for a future where energy and resources will be still more expensive, and the companies and nations that are the most energy-efficient will prosper the most." CFACT Executive Director, Craig Rucker responded to her question. Commissioner Hedegaard's Denmark may have surrounded itself with wind turbines, but could not afford such feel good luxuries if it were [...]

Environmentalists seek to block BLM land sale for Idaho mine

The Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seriously considering selling over 1,100 acres of public land to accommodate a promising phosphate mining project in southeastern Idaho.Under the plan, BLM would sell at fair market value 1,142 acres of its vast holdings to J.R. Simplot Co. for the mine, located in the mountains about ten miles east of Soda Springs, Idaho.  Simplot would use the phosphate to make fertilizer.  In addition to the land it would purchase from BLM, the company is considering a land swap with the adjacent Caribu-Targhee National Forest that would add 400 more acres to [...]

Telegraph – “Climate Change: Always Room for Doubt”

Another major daily breaks from climate change orthodoxy The Daily Telegraph editorializes today that CRU scientists got off too "lightly" in the review of their role in the Climategate scandal.  Like Der Spiegel before it, the Telegraph is rediscovering that every debate has two sides.  The voices of the climate realists are penetrating the climate fog at last.  The Telegraph reminds its readers that on climate, "there is another view, for which evidence can also be adduced, even if it seems to conflict with the received wisdom. The findings of the Oxburgh inquiry are not an excuse for again closing down [...]

Climate summit hangover

By Edgar Gärtner There were no significant steps taken toward a new global waming treaty at the April meeting in the Bonn Maritim Hotel of two ad hoc working. The official purpose of the conference was for the industrialized nations to negotiate additional obligations on the carbon dioxide reductions and their long-term co-operation with poorer countries. Two thousand delegates met in the conference centre's elegant halls. NGOs demonstrated on a pile of broken glass in the hotel's driveway as their way admonish conference participants over their recent fiasco in Copenhagen and to try launch a new run towards a Kyoto type [...]

Confidential U.S. Climate Strategy Leaked in Bonn

Reveals radical global warming treaty push, efforts to “bypass” and spin media Guardian environment editor John Vidal obtained a confidential U.S. climate strategy document from a “hotel computer” at the Bonn climate talks.  Vidal did not reveal to CFACT’s “Mission Bonn” team what was afoot, but came to the CFACT display obviously quite excited and pumped our American members for information on the format used in the U.S. to display dates.  It appears he was seeking background for his evaluation of this strategy document. CFACT readers will remember Mr. Vidal as the fellow who interrupted our Climate Sense conference [...]
