The environmental insane asylum

Earth Day was declared in 1970 and for the past 45 years we have all been living in the environmental “insane asylum,” being told over and over again to believe things that are the equivalent of Green hallucinations. Now the entire month of April has been declared Earth Month, but in truth not a day goes by when we are not assailed with the bold-faced lies that comprise environmentalism.

Around the globe, the worst part of this is that we are being victimized by people we are told to respect from the President of the United States to the Pope of the Catholic Church. Their environmentalism is pure socialism.

Organizations whom we expect to tell the truth keep telling us that “climate change is one of the biggest global security threats of the 21st century.”  This was a recent statement by “world leaders” like the G7, a group of finance ministers and central bank governors of seven advanced economies, the International Monetary Fund, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States. On April 17 they adopted a report about the “threat” put together by think tanks that included the European Union Institute for Security Studies and the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.

When I speak of “climate” I am referring to data gathered not just about decades, but centuries of the Earth’s cycles of warming and cooling. When I speak of “weather”, the closest any of us get to it other than today’s, are local predictions no longer than a few days’ time at best. The weather is in a constant state of flux.

The threat of “climate change” is constantly exaggerated  and there has been no meaningful global warming since the 20th century.  There was not much then.  As Prof. Bob Carter, a geologist at James Cook College in Queensland, Australia, has written, “For many years now, human-caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. In truth, however, the biggest part of the problem is neither environmental nor scientific, but a self-created political fiasco.”

The fact that the Earth is now into the nineteenth year of a natural planetary cooling cycle seems to never be acknowledged or reported. “The problem here,” says Prof. Carter, “is not that of climate change per se, but rather that of the sophisticated scientific brainwashing that has been inflicted on the public, bureaucrats and politicians alike.”

In a book I recommend to everyone, “Climate for the Layman” by Anthony Bright-Paul, he draws on the best well-known science about the Earth noting that “Since there is no such thing as a temperature of the whole Earth all talk of global warming is simply illogical, ill thought out, and needs to be discarded for the sake of clarity. The globe is warming and cooling in different locations concurrently every minute of the day and night.”

“Since it is abundantly clear that there is no one temperature of the atmosphere all talk of Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is simply an exercise in futility.” A look at the globe from either of its two poles to its equator and everything in between tells us with simple logic that being able to determine its “temperature” is impossible. The Earth, however, has gone through numerous warming and cooling cycles, all of which were the result of more or less solar radiation.

The Sun is a crucial factor that warming campaigners ignore. The assertion that humans influence the climate and nature need not be considered is absurd.

The Earth had passed through warming and cooling cycles for billions of years before humans even existed, yet we are told that the generation of carbon dioxide through the use of machinery in manufacturing, transportation or any other use is causing the build-up of “greenhouse gases” in the atmosphere. We are told to give up the use of coal, oil and natural gas. That is a definition of insanity!

Here’s the simple truth that most people are not told: The Sun warms the Earth and the Earth warms the atmosphere.

As for carbon dioxide, the amount generated by human activity represents a miniscule percentage of the 0.04% in the Earth’s atmosphere. There has been more carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere—well before humans existed—contributing to the growth of all manner of vegetation which in turn generated oxygen.

Without carbon dioxide there would be no life on Earth. It feeds the vegetation on which animal life depends directly and indirectly. As Anthony Bright-Paul says, “A slight increase in atmosphere of carbon dioxide will not and cannot produce any warming, but can be hugely beneficial to a green planet.”

The Earth’s atmosphere is approximately 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, 0.9% Argon, 0.04% Carbon Dioxide, and the rest is water vapor and trace gases in very small amounts. They interact to provide an environment in which life, animal and vegetable, exists on Earth.

When you live in a Global Environmental Insane Asylum, you are not likely to hear or read the truth, but you can arrive at it using simple logic. We know instinctively that humans do not control the waves of our huge oceans, nor the vast tectonic plates beneath our feet, the eruptions of volcanoes, the jet stream, cloud formation, or any of the elements of the weather we experience, such as thunder, lightning, and other acts of nature.

Why would we blindly assume or agree to the torrent of lies that humans dominate the climate? The answer is that on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, we will be deluged with the propaganda of countless organizations worldwide that we are, in fact, endangering a “fragile” planet Earth.  We hear and read that every other day of the year as well.

The achievement of the human race and the last 5,000 years of so-called civilization is the way we have learned to adapt to Nature by creating habitats from villages to cities in which to survive and because we have devised a vast global agricultural and ranching system to feed seven billion of us.

As for the weather, John Christy, the director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama, says he cringes “when I hear overstated confidence from those who describe the projected evolution of global weather patterns over the next one hundred years, especially when I consider how difficult it is to accurately predict that system’s behavior over the next five days.”

“Mother Nature,” says Christy, “simply operates at a level of complexity that is, at this point, behind the mastery of mere mortals—such as scientists—and the tools available to us.”

Whether it is the President or the Pope, or the countless politicians and bureaucrats, along with multitudes of “environmental” organizations, as well as self-serving “scientists”, all aided by the media, a virtual Green Army has been deliberately deceiving and misleading the citizens of planet Earth for four and a half decades. It won’t stop any time soon, but it must before the charade of environmentalism leaves us all enslaved by the quest for political control over our lives that hides behind it.

We must escape the Environmental Insane Asylum in which they want us to live.

    Mr. Caruba,

Nice article but you leave out a very important and salient fact, which punctuates even further how Man’s role in the climate debate is even more miniscule and pointless than you make out.

Out of the 0.04% of Carbon Dioxide that constitutes of the air, ONLY 1% of this is being added every year into the air by Man. That is, Man’s role in CO2 contribution to the air, is only 0.0004%, or 4/10,000’s of a 1%!! Here check it out yourself at CO2 Facts .

Let’s put this in money terms; that’s 4 cents per $1 Million. Yes the morons in the climate brigade think that 4 cents will alter the fortunes of a millionaire! Or if you like, its nearly comparable to an elephant’s weight to an ant’s weight, yes that means that the entire human race on Earth is comparable to 1 single ant on an elephant, and that one said single ant, that is all of humanity, will change the entire course of that poor elephant’s existence, that is our Earth’s climate!!

That’s right all this nonsense about Man’s role in Climate Change for a lousy 1% of 0.004%! Now compare how much affect the Sun has on the Earth, do you think that the Sun’s role is smaller than 1% of 0.004%? Well the moron climatologists that believe in AGW do, and they call themselves scientists! Lunatics and morons, yes, but scientists? Never!

1% OF 0.04%!!! Doesn’t anybody anymore know how do any math properly?

    • Dorian April 21, 2015 at 3:52 AM

      Per argument above….

Have you heard of the expression, “Penny wise, pound foolish?” Well these moron climatologists and AGWers are not just penny wise, they are all out cheapskates. Think of all the billions of dollars that are going into this IDIOTIC philosophy, when the return investment is, AT ABSOLUTE BEST, to control 4 cents in a $1 million!! Now if we cut our emissions buy 25%, we are now effectively talking about 1 cent in $1 million of effect on climate!
But THESE THIEVES in the climate movement make out Billions!

Climatology, Climate Change, Anthropomorphic Climate Change, whatever you want to call this flimflam, is just about taking money from those who have it, and it giving it to those who don’t; its pure COMMUNISM. This is just one great big scam for the communists to steal from those whom have created a world that the rest can’t contribute positively in.

What is it with people! THIS WHOLE CLIMATE THING IS UTTER CRAP!

      • Peter Osborne April 22, 2015 at 5:50 PM

Yet, it is still a “propriety” on Pres. Obama’s list of to do’s for the nest 20 months.

    • Scott Scarborough April 21, 2015 at 12:13 PM

That would be $4.00 out of a million. Not 4 cents. And the number I have heard is 3% or the CO2 cycled into and out of the atmosphere is contributed by man’s buring of fossil fuels. Not 1%. It is a small amount but that does not prove it can’t have a big effect. What proves that it can’t have a big effect is that it hasn’t had a big effect even though we have been putting more CO2 in the air than ever before.

      • Concerned April 22, 2015 at 4:08 PM

Comments regarding the 3% CO2 are common errors because those arguing for AGW don’t want people to see the entire picture. To set the record straight, please review the following two documents which show CO2 as related to “supposed greenhouse gases” and CO2 in relation to the entire atmosphere. It is easy to see that CO2 accounts for only 0.0397 % of the total atmosphere!! The real confusion comes from the fact that CO2 accounts for a total of 3.618% of the “Greenhouse Effect.” Of this, 3.502% is natural and 0.117% is Man-made. Water Vapor accounts for 95% of the “Greenhouse Effect.” The total of all Greenhouse Gases (including water vapor) is less than 1%. Therefore, man-made contribution to the total atmosphere becomes 0.117% of 1% = 0.00117% of the total atmosphere. This can be rounded up to 0.0015% to account for other rounding errors, which is much smaller than anyone believes. Maxwell’s equations consider the entire mass of the atmosphere — Nitrogen & Oxygen.

      • jreb57 May 1, 2015 at 4:33 PM

“What proves that it can’t have a big effect is that it hasn’t had a big effect even though we have been putting more CO2 in the air than ever before.”
That and the fact that no one has bothered to prove that increases in CO2 would cause the planet to warm. This is still unproven theory that the AGW people are basing their whole house of cards on.

    • DavidAppell April 21, 2015 at 9:43 PM

Man’s emissions have increased atmospheric CO2 by about 41%. It’d be more if nature wasn’t absorbing more than it emits.

      • FreemenRtrue April 22, 2015 at 1:10 PM

utterly impossible to know that number – bogus to the max – natural sources are not well known or quantified – absorption and its delta response are likewise unknown

        • Peter Osborne April 22, 2015 at 5:51 PM

0f course, also the more Earth warms, after a lapse of about 800 years, more CO2 comes out of the oceans and into the air. When the Earth cools, about 800 years later, the CO2 starts to go back into solution in the oceans. While CO2 is a “greenhouse” gas, it accounts for less than 4% of the effect. Water Vapor 95% of the effect and the CO2’s ability to change temp. is limited by its’ logarithmic effect in atmosphere.

          • Dano2 April 23, 2015 at 1:13 PM

o CO2 lags temp in Vostok record [10 points]

o Water vapor makes up 95% of the greenhouse effect [30 points]

          • jreb57 May 1, 2015 at 3:58 PM

“0f course, also the more Earth warms, after a lapse of about 800 years, more CO2 comes out of the oceans and into the air”
We all refrigerate our Coca Colas so they won’t lose their fizz, don’t we?.

        • Dano2 April 23, 2015 at 1:12 PM

Not impossible at all. Cuz basic science from 12th grade.

        • DavidAppell April 23, 2015 at 1:21 PM

It’s easy to know that number, because man’s CO2 emissions have a different isotopic signature versus natural emissions. (Man’s emission come from very old carbon, so it is depleted in natural radioactivity.)

          • FreemenRtrue April 23, 2015 at 2:20 PM

            that is bs

            • DavidAppell April 23, 2015 at 2:43 PM

              Why is it BS?

              This is long-established science:

“How do we know that recent CO2 increases are due to human activities?” RealClimate, 12/22/2004

              • jreb57 May 1, 2015 at 4:11 PM

Radio carbon dating is real science, but you are assuming that you can tell the difference in the really old carbon from volcanic eruptions and the really old carbon from coal fired plants (for example). Carbon from petroleum is likely to be younger and carbon from methane fairly recent. BTW the carbon 14 content is the result of solar activity, the real culprit keeping our planet warm and toasty.

          • jreb57 May 1, 2015 at 4:02 PM

How about the really old carbon from volcanic eruptions?

      • canuckpuck April 25, 2015 at 1:25 AM

which still amounts to close to nothing of the earths atmosphere. The main greenhouse gas is water vapor, but no one ever says anything about that.

        • DavidAppell April 25, 2015 at 1:40 AM

Everyone says lots about water vapor — you really need to read more carefully.

But water vapor is a feedback, not a forcing. Its atmospheric concentration only changes *after* the temperature of the atmosphere changes, not before.

The atmosphere can only hold so much water vapor, a function of its temperature. Anything more, and it quickly rains out.

          • jreb57 May 1, 2015 at 4:30 PM

“But water vapor is a feedback, not a forcing. Its atmospheric concentration only changes *after* the temperature of the atmosphere changes, not before”

Not so. The only “forcing” is the sun which you guys seem to ignore. While it is true that when the relative humidity reaches 100% the atmosphere is saturated and it rains, this results in perceptible and immediate cooling. No CO2 needed. The atmosphere absorbs and distributes heat energy, it does not produce heat energy.

        • DavidAppell April 25, 2015 at 2:26 AM

Ever hear the expression “the dose makes the poison?”

It’s not a matter of how *much* of something is in the atmospehere, it’s a matter of its *effect*.

What number are you using for the IR absorption cross section of a CO2 molecule?

          • jreb57 May 1, 2015 at 4:22 PM

Energy in the IR spectrum is heat energy, The specific heat of H2O is one. That is approximately 8 times the specific heat of CO2. Add to that the heat of vaporization of water is 540. CO2 does not change state at any temperature or pressure found ln the atmosphere. Both of these compounds act as working to distribute heat energy; they do not add to the amount of heat energy. (the specific heat is determined by measuring the amount of heat energy it takes to raise 1 gram of matter 1 degree centigrade)

        • DavidAppell April 27, 2015 at 6:42 PM

Everyone knows the main greenhouse gas is water vapor. Everyone. They also know it’s a feedback, not a forcing.

If you start locking your comments to prevent replies, you’ll get the same.

    • AllenBarclayAllen April 22, 2015 at 4:53 PM

Mans role here isn’t worth mentioning since the last break ice age 10.000 years ago CO2 levels were 12000 PPM Proven by Carbon dating of those Ice Age layers in Earth Mantel by real Geological scientist. Not amateurs that are simply practicing Hearsay Science with Absolutely no proof. Like you have clearly done here !!

  3. Karl Landgren April 22, 2015 at 12:57 PM

I read a couple years ago, that if the Henny Pennies got everything they’re asking for (e.g. trillions of dollars that we don’t have, productivity-stifling regulations [not necessarily passed by Congress], and the cooperation of 7 billion people in 200 countries for 90 years), that maybe–just maybe–our mean global temperature will increase by 1 degree C, rather than 2 degrees.

    • David L April 25, 2015 at 7:23 AM

Hi,AGW has never been about the enviromental causes. It has ALWAYS been a political tool to gain total control over everyone on earth. Wealth redistribution. They want to make everyone equal, all except the elite. That means we in the US would be brought down to the level of the third world. Instead of raising them up to our standard of living. Why do you think Africa is so far behind the rest of the world. Sure there are extenuating circumstances. But Africa has an abundance of every resource needed to develop. Yet,there is very little investment. Why?

      • Karl Landgren April 25, 2015 at 1:29 PM

Exactly! They’re watermelons: appearing green outside, and truly red inside. Or, to use the Savior’s phrase, wolves in sheep’s clothing.

        • Peter Osborne May 2, 2015 at 4:41 PM

Or they are GREEN because they are too YELLOW to admit they are RED.

Silly ‘Greenies’…plant more trees and breathe deep.

  7. billorights April 22, 2015 at 2:25 PM

One other thing about CO2 that I’ve only heard one person mention before: CO2 is heavier (actually denser) than the rest of the atmosphere. This would imply that whatever amount of CO2 we have in the atmosphere, most of it would be found near the earth’s surface, and not miles up in the atmosphere where it would need to be in order to provide a greenhouse effect. So my question is: Are CO2 concentrations measured at the earth’s surface, or (say) 5 or 10 miles above the earth’s surface? I would think that knowing the answer to this would make or break the AGW theory.

    • Peter Osborne May 2, 2015 at 4:42 PM

Dr. S. Fred Singer, , a man the religious wamists constantly attack personally for having worked for a living , he’s about 90 now, has a nice article on it , look up his home page and you’ll find it. Also Dr. Don Easterbrook has some climate sanity on his home page articles too. Of course, he too gets personally and viciously attacked by the religious warmsts.

  9. Mike April 22, 2015 at 3:14 PM

I can’t believe that a warmer climate can’t ever be good for anything. I prefer a warmer climate! Mike on Kauai.

  10. Anziani April 22, 2015 at 4:01 PM

And one other thing that is NOT mentioned. NOAA has been measuring the inbound and OUTBOUND radiation for 30+ years. Guess what? The OUTBOUND radiation has been slowly INCREASING! That means no impact by miniscule CO2 or NOAA is wrong. Come to think about it how can CO2 be reflecting energy to Earth. I always thought you had to have a flat surface to reflect anything. At least that is what the astrophysicists say! But then I’m just a lowly, well informed peasant.

  11. ReaperHD April 22, 2015 at 4:16 PM

  12. AllenBarclayAllen April 22, 2015 at 4:48 PM

Without carbon dioxide there would be no life on Earth. Thank you Alan Caruba. Thats been my point all along and its shared by NASA. Earth does not have an Atmosphere without the Burning of Fuel and Fossil fuel is the biggest contributor to our Atmosphere threw Tectonic Plate Burning Zones that are also called Subduction Zones, and NASA know’s this. Even scientist that make the false Assumption that Earth Oxygen comes from Iron Oxide will have to admit that that oxide only turned into Oxygen with a fire at these Subduction Zones. When turned back into Oxygen there it too has to combine with Fossil fuel fire producing CO2. Consequently All of our Atmosphere comes from burning of fuel into CO2 !!

Alan Caruba clearly this is a non science mental derision, a MENTAL ILLNESS!!

  13. hangman57 April 22, 2015 at 7:35 PM

Climate changes, driven by the Sun’s various energy levels. The Sun is quiet now, it is cooler now. When the Sun’s activity picks up, it will warm up. The greatest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy, and prosperity is no longer socialism or communism but, rather, the ambitious, arrogant, and unscrupulous ideology of environmentalism. The flawed global warming doctrine has become government doctrine in the western world, acting like a cancer eating away at our democratic way of life.

Why are politicians willing to go along with the climate-warming fable? Because it results in their having more power.

Why are scientists willing to go along with the climate-warming fable? Because they get grant money if they do, ostracized if they don’t.

Why do the media go along with the climate-warming fable? Because they get awards if they do, fired if they don’t. Well, and they’re not very bright anyway.
