CFACT is sad to learn of the untimely passing of our friend and colleague Einar Du Rietz of Sweden. Einar wrote a long-standing blog for CFACT Europe. He was a member of several CFACT delegations to UN climate conferences. Einar loved individual freedom and it is to that he dedicated his life. What finer cause? Rest in peace, Einar.
Five hundred German police and tax inspectors raided offices and residences connected with Deutsche Bank in Berlin, Frankfurt and Dusselforf, Wednesday over allegations of conspiracy involving over €300 million in carbon trading tax fraud. While a few profiteers will amass carbon trading fortunes, these schemes will not impact the climate in any meaningful way. Whether conducted legally or illegally, all carbon trading is a waste and a scam which cries out to be halted.
CFACT mourns the loss of Franz Joseph Otto Robert Maria Anton Karl Max Heinrich Sixtus Xavier Felix Renatus Ludwig Gaetan Pius Ignatius von Habsburg, a great European and advocate for individual freedom and dignity. CFACT will be well represented at the funeral in Vienna with both Holger Thuss and Einar Du Rietz attending. He will be buried together with his wife Regina, who died in February 2010, in Vienna's Imperial Burial Vault on 16 July 2011. Funeral arrangements.
"Fictitious trades, fictitious companies, bogus addresses" The Süddeutschen Zeitung reports that German fraud investigators have found that €850 million fell off the table when shady companies swarmed into the carbon trading, emissions and energy business. The criminal companies rake in tens to hundreds of millions, fend off regulators with delaying tactics and then announce bankruptcy or disappear. Düsseldorf tax investigators found that in less than a quarter of an hour emissions certificates might change hands five times. The same CO2 allowance would trade up to 18 times. I’m convinced that cursing along, hating the ever changing climate is about as constructive as trying to steer a sailing boat by shouting orders to the winds. Either one would just drive you mad (and possibly injured). Denying the weather seems more promising, but equally dangerous.
