The NY Times wants to know whether a dry, dusty spell in Australia is evidence of global warming. That Australia was prone to dryness and dust before the Dutch stumbled upon it doesn’t factor. When the Guardian reported last year that snow was blanketing the Middle East, they didn’t ask whether this showed we were all in for global cooling. Cooler heads of course know that neither event tells us much about our climate. Weather varies and history records the average of extremes. If the press reports unseasonable heat as warming and takes unseasonable cold in stride, it heads [...]

The Daily Telegraph reports windfarms, “can reduce bird numbers by up to half” citing a study by Britain’s Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). The Golden Plover is one of the species the RSPB found was harmed by wind turbines. The idea of generating electricity from the wind always seems attractive at first glance. However, wind continues to generate only one percent of world power. Increasing that percentage requires adding thousands upon thousands of new turbines. Many people, such as those who left in protest when the RSPB endorsed British turbine plans […]

SIMON ESPERSEN (Copenhagen) In terms of political ideas, Denmark these days is largely socialist. In economic terms it is a mixed economy with a large part of civil society encroached upon by government bureaucracy. There is not a vital part of society that politicians do not seek to control. […]
SIMON ESPERSEN (COPENHAGEN) In recent years, a number of pro-free-market think tanks and taxpayer associations have been formed in France, and their effectiveness and impact clearly are increasing. These groups include Institut Economique Molinari, the Institute for Economic Studies-Europe, Institut de Formation Politique, Contribuables Associes (French Taxpayers Association), etc. In part because of their efforts, France has sharply reduced its corporate income-tax rate so it is lower than the U.S. rate. SIMON ESPERSEN (Copenhagen) Connie Hedegaard is the Danish Minister for Climate and Energy. Along with her fellow Danish colleagues she is hosting the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Copenhagen. Being a member of the Danish conservative party for decades you would not expect the minister to hold radical or extreme viewpoints regarding the relationship between man and nature. […]

Albania’s government risks wrecking one of Europe’s last unspoiled environments ( and breaking its own laws) by allowing an Albanian subsidiary of an Italian company to build a wind farm on a coastal nature reserve and on part of a national park. The government has transferred more than 97 hectares of land to Italy’s Moncada Energy Group, which through its Albanian subsidiary, Enpower Albania, aims to build a 500 megawatt wind farm in the south of the country..... Complete Story at Wind Watch.
Event marks second gathering of climate realists in a year On 17 April, an audience of 80 assembled in the Parliament of the State of Berlin, Germany, to listen to the latest findings of climate science. Under the patronage of the FDP-group, supported by the European Climate and Energy Institute and CFACT Europe, a range of top speakers presented their views on the issue. Great expectations had been linked to the event, and some political pressure had been put on the organizers. […]
We are writing to you and others associated with the IPCC position – that man’s CO2 is a driver of global warming and climate change – to ask that you now in view of the evidence retract support from the current IPCC position [as in footnote 1] and admit that there is no observational evidence in measured data going back 22,000 years or even millions of years that CO2 levels (whether from man or nature) have driven or are driving world temperatures or climate change.
