The EPA is becoming notorious for faking its cost-benefit numbers to justify onerous, and environmentally useless, regulations that will impose billions of dollars in compliance costs, cost many jobs, and seriously weaken the U.S. economy -- that is, unless the federal courts shoot them down for failing to follow the law. From the Clean Power Plan's assault on life-giving carbon dioxide to particulate matter and methane and more, the EPA is shameless in using buddy-reviewed (rather than truly peer-reviewed) research (often hidden from even the oversight of Congress to avoid any scrutiny) and even anecdotal material to justify regulations with enormous economic consequences. Carbon dioxide levels are not at all high -- they have been much higher in the past. Meanwhile, demonizing this vital natural plant nutrient as pollution is not just absurd, it is anti-humanity.
A new briefing paper by Dr. Indur Goklany examines the World Health Organization’s recent report on climate change and finds that its estimates of future mortality from global warming are grossly exaggerated. “Because of its willful exaggerations,” says Goklany, “the WHO study risks scaring people into taking ill-considered costly actions to limit greenhouse gases rather than focusing on higher priority global health issues such as hunger, malaria, and diarrhoeal diseases, which can be addressed at a fraction of the cost.”
Marita Noon says that the European Union may appear to have reached a consensus agreement on carbon dioxide reductions, renewables use, and energy efficiency -- but the agreement includes a proviso that it only takes effect if all of the major carbon dioxide emitter countries become signatories to the non-treaty agreement that President Obama thinks he can make effective even without Senate confirmation.
