On climate change, Catholic leaders must believe in miracles

While Catholic leaders, led by Pope Francis, are focused on curbing global warming (aka curbing the use of fossil fuels) as the most urgent means of combating poverty, the facts are that cheap, reliable energy and access to jobs and markets is what the poor need most. And, not surprisingly, the poor know it -- ranking "climate change" the LEAST important concern in their lives, with food and education at the top.

Crony collusion fuels White House Clean Power scam

Information obtained by the Energy & Environment Legal Institute (EE Legal) through state and federal Freedom of Information Act public record requests reveal a richly funded and closely coordinated network including the White House, governors-in-hiding, and “Green energy” subsidy seekers to advance the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan. The full report, titled “Public Interests & Public Office,” was prepared by EE Legal Senior Legal Fellow Christopher Horner, also a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, was released in August. The report chronicles how governors anxious to receive funding from “major environmental donors” — principally billionaire Tom Steyer — yet fearful [...]

Obama’s Alaska trip: where were the polar bears?

Polar bear populations in the Arctic are at record numbers (at least since humans started recording them), so it should be no surprise that all of a sudden President Obama is NOT talking about them. Instead, on his recent Alaska trip, he called for more icebreaker ships at a time he is also trying to claim that Arctic ice is shrinking (when it is not) and glaciers are retreating (which they have been doing for well over a century).

The climate alarm industry is scientifically bankrupt

Increasingly, pub lic policy is becoming the captive of a new scientific-technological elite that produces fatally flawed research that seeks not the truth but rather to sculpt data that fit their theory of the world. Indeed, many scientific journals have been publishing bogus studies which reference nonexistent data. A primary reason is that most climate research funding comes from public alarm-dependent agenda-driven government sponsors and their Green activist acolytes.

Ducks Unlimited, Virginia winery face off in court over land-use restrictions

Cronyism once again rears its ugly head, as Big Conservation seeks to infringe upon the rights of American property owners to use their land lawfully for profit and for the benefit of customers who make their businesses grow. This time. it is a small Virginia winery, but next time it may be you wanting to add a barbecue pit or even a hot tub. Hopefully, the courts will side with the property owners this time -- but we must be eternally vigilant against these interlopers who seek godlike status in our society.

Twin peaks – twin lies

The elites are at war against the Earth's people -- and they are using the United Nations (and the EPA) as their strike force. CFACT senior advisor Paul Driessen and fusion energy advocate Tom Tamarkin note that the elites are seeking complete micro-management of the energy and living standards for every individual on the planet (except, of course, the elites). This is akin to the reintroduction of serfdom (maybe even slavery).

Greens, Feds team up to link land-use restrictions to climate change

The behemoth that is the federal bureaucracy is wholly unaccountable to the people whom they are now pushing around via massive new regulations -- Obama style -- that take away private property rights without due process or even a hearing. Washington is out of control and must be reined in,

EPA analyst exposes climate science takeover

Alan Carlin should know -- he's been there. The EPA began to phase out independent scientists during the 1990s, and the Obama Administration has finished the job -- such that the "science" from the EPA is whatever the government wants it to say. It is long past time for a change back to scientific inquiry that does not have to lead to a foregone conclusion.

Pope’s climate position will hurt poor countries

An April report issued by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences presents a likely sneak preview of an “Apostolic Exhortation” that Pope Francis will introduce at a UN General Assembly meeting later this year. Headlined to “Safeguard Creation,” it will warn of dire threats posed by human-caused climate change which, in turn, are rooted in excessive capitalist consumption. The message draws directly from religious doctrine of the United Nations, its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in particular. Following the IPCC script, the solution to global ills and disparities is to replace fossil energy with anemic, [...]

The Pope embraces the religion of global warming

Pope Francis, some say, has joined with enemies of the Catholic Church to endorse the global warming agenda. CFACT policy analyst Marita Noon reports on how other Christians are convinced this is a bad move.

Solar tax credits are not “conservative” or “free market”

With Louisiana looking to trim a budget deficit (partly caused by Obama energy policies), the state legislature is considering a dramatic cutback in subsidies for rooftop solar installations -- subsidies that in one documented case amounted to $33,000 of the cost of a $40,000 system. The customer was quite happy, noting that after a 5-year amortization for his $7,000 investment, his energy is now free. But who is amortizing the $33,000 that taxpayers paid for? If it took 5 years to amortize $7,000, then it must take nearly 30 years to amortize the true cost of the solar installation -- longer than the lifespan of the solar units.

The sun and the wind are free, but …

CFACT contributor Marita Noon points out that wind and solar power are free, but converting them to usable energy typically requires fossil fuel backup systems because neither wind nor solar is 24/7n reliable. Pointing out these facts -- and the higher energy costs for the poorest among us -- typically is met with ugly rhetoric, character assassination and such like, because wind and solar companies and the die-hard supporters of renewable energy cannot refute the facts.

House bill would give land trusts power over private forestlands

The proposed "Forest Legacy Management Flexibility Act” would, according to its supporters, promote conservation of private forestlands by reducing administrative burdens for states. Conservation easements under the federal Forest Legacy Program could be held by accredited land trusts rather than state agencies. CFACT advisor Bonner Cohen says the cost to the public of this bill would be incalculable. Far better than the landowners ignore these land trusts and manage their own property and pass it along to their heirs.

World economy transformation tops UN climate agenda

The secret has been out for some time, yet nobody on the Left or the mainstream media is really talking about it -- that "global warming" has always been little more than a smokescreen for worldwide wealth redistribution overseen by bureaucrats at the United Nations -- picking the bones of a tired, weak, and shamed America unwilling to defend itself or to flex its economic muscles. But will they succeed? Stay tuned!
