Although it was defeated last year, environmentalists are once again trying to pass the McCain-Lieberman bill to limit greenhouse gases.  But according to Margo Thorning of the American Council For Capital Formation, this legislation would cause more harm than good, especially in Louisiana.  Comments Ms. Thorning: “McCain-Lieberman legislation causes Louisiana’s jobs to decrease by as much as 8,000 jobs in 2010, and perhaps 20,000 in 2020.  Key industries suffer, including refining, chemicals, and other energy-intensive sectors.  Low-income and elderly are hard hit, facing a tax burden perhaps 65 percent greater due to higher energy prices than high-income individuals.”
