Is the use of chemicals on our foods, clothing, and consumer products causing a public health alarm? While many consumer advocates say “Yes,” Iain Murray of the Competitive Enterprise Institute believes otherwise. Comments Murray: “The fact is that modern life is much, much safer than it was in previous centuries, and chemicals actually have a lot to do with that. Chlorination of water, for instance, has reduced death from waterborne diseases, and chemicals enable high-yield farming and produced the “Green revolution” which has stopped literally millions of people dying of hunger around the world. Experts credit our use of chemicals as having contributed to that.”
