Damian Carrington of The Guardian saw the shootings in Tucson Arizona as a ripe opportunity to score points in the global warming debate, even going so far as to label those he disagrees with “climate Nazis‘ which apparently includes CFACT’s Climate Depot.

Arizona shooter Jared Lee Loughner

It now appears that just as any weather event, hot, cold, extreme, or mild now proves the theory of global warming, any violence, even by a deranged killer on a crazed mission of his own, now justifies stifling the debate over climate.

CFACT responded to the The Guardian and told them:

Attempts to use the tragic AZ shooting to score political points and silence speech are shameful.  To leap still further and use this tragedy to chill speech in the global warming debate is equally shameful.  As a representative of CFACT I can report that no one at UN climate conferences has any fear of what conservatives might do.  It is routinely the green left that believes its ends justifies its means and resorts to threats, punches, theft and violence.  We have had members of our delegation struck to the ground and been the targets of vandalism, violence and theft.  The police do not deploy riot gear to contain us.  Hands off speech and take a good look at who wields the actual sticks and stones when it comes to global warming.  Further we refer Mr. Carrington to “Godwin’s Law:” when you leap to say “Nazi” you automatically lose whatever debate is in progress.
