An iconic natural rock formation in the Galapagos Islands collapsed on May 17th.  The Ecuadoran Ministry of Environment and Water reported that the collapse was due to “natural erosion,” and posted a picture of the collapsed formation credited to Hector Barrera.

We report that the iconic Arc of Darwin collapsed.
Today May 17, 2021, the collapse of the Darwin Arc, the attractive natural bridge located less than a kilometre from the main island Darwin, the northernmost of the #Galapagos Archipelago. This event would be the result of natural erosion.
Darwin’s Arc is natural stone that would at one point have been part of Darwin Island, which is not open for land visits.
This site is considered one of the best places on the planet to dive and observe schools of sharks and other species.
