A Tesla battery called the “megapack” burst into flames over the weekend prompting authorities to issue a toxic air warning to residents in the nearby area. It took 150 firefighters four days to extinguish the fire.

The megapack battery is a 13-ton lithium battery designed for large-scale utility projects. It is unclear what caused the fire to start.

According to USA Today:

“Firefighters will remain on the scene over the next 24 hours as a precaution, CFA [the Country Fire Authority] said.

“In 2019, Tesla announced the Megapack, a battery product specifically for utility-scale projects, was being developed in Australia and the Moss Landing project in California with PG&E.”
