Is the ice covering the North Pole melting? Well many people believe so, but now comes new research from the Institute of Ocean Sciences that may put the deep-freeze on such hype. According to the institute, submarine data between 1960 and 1990 has indeed shown a 40% reduction in ice shield draught. But the problem with the data is that they only cover small portions of the polar region and, when one takes into account the multi-decadal wind patterns, it seems likely the ice has simply shifted from one region to another. Since recent sonar data suggest there may even be an increase of Arctic ice, it only goes to show you can’t trust the Greens in a place where everything is white.
