Protecting sea turtles is an important environmental goal.  And according to Congressman Wayne Gilchrest of Maryland, things are looking up with efforts to protect this endangered hard-shelled animal.  Comments Congressman Gilchrest: “Turtles travel thousands of miles across open ocean, but very often when they come near shore, they run into shrimp boats, they run into nets, they run into long lines – so what our legislation is designed to do is with the international community, to come up with ways to reduce the catch of turtles.  We’ve also put some money into the bill so the U.S. and other countries and non-profit organizations can actually go to the beaches, and protect the little turtles as they go back into the ocean.”
