In an effort to curb pollution, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently announced plans to “buy back” lawn mowers from those willing to turn in their old gasoline powered contraptions for new ones.  But is cranking up such a lawn mower initiative a good idea?  Well the answer is “Yes” according to the National Center for Policy Analysis, which recently noted that a single gas-powered mower typically emits more pollution than 43 new cars do each year.  Indeed, retiring just 4,000 such gas-powered mowers would reduce air pollution by a hefty 20 tons per year, which is more than is generated by the huge oil refineries in L.A. in just two days.  Time will tell if this mower buy-back initiative will cut and trim pollution.
