Recently a highly publicized study comparing the environmental benefits of organic farming with conventional farming seemed to give the edge to the former.  However, when one pulls up the weeds from the research, it appears the reporters plowed over many facts.  Advocates of organic farming, for example, claim that the study shows organic farming uses 50 percent less energy. However, this statistic does not take into account that the study also shows conventional farming to be 20 percent more productive.  In addition, when placed up against modern no-till farming, which the study doesn?t even address, organic farming can?t reap anywhere near the same environmental benefits. So all the hype appears to be a bunch of hayseed indeed!
