Should landowners be cautious about signing onto conservation easements with governments and non-profit groups?  Well according to Joyce Morrison of the Citizens for Property Rights in Illinois, the answer is yes, and she has this to say: “Many people who sign onto conservation easements do so without asking some important questions.  These questions might include what will the rest of my property be worth, now that I have attached this permanent claim to my deed, or how will my children’s future be affected?  Conservation easements are deceptively attractive, but landowners should be suspicious of why any government agency or non-profit group would want to control their land.”
