When you think of new hybrid vehicles, you probably think of small compact cars like the Toyota Prius or Honda Insight.  But according to an article in the Miami Herald, Daimler Chrysler is planning to sell the first heavy-duty pickup truck that uses both gasoline and electricity when it brings the Dodge Ram HEV to market later this year.  The new truck will use a 35 kilowatt electric motor, powered by the vehicle’s diesel engine, to add torque to the engine’s output, and in the process, get about 10 percent better fuel efficiency.  Since the electric motor also acts as a generator that can be used at worksites or recreation areas, it looks like hybrids will continue to grow in popularity for vehicles small and large.
