Three years ago, angry organic farmers tried to have John Stossel fired from ABC TV’s “20/20” for highlighting the risks of organic foods grown in manure.   But according to Dennis Avery of the Center for Global Food Studies, such concerns are now being raised by a reputable new study.  Comments Avery: “New research from the University of Minnesota reinforces concerns that organic produce poses a significantly greater bacterial risk to consumers. The researchers found E. coli on only 1.6 percent of non-organic produce compared to nearly 10 percent of organic. Organic lettuce was the most contaminated. This research indicates that current USDA organic rules fall far short of adequately protecting consumers.”
