Throughout the 1960’s, the English otter began a rapid decline throughout the United Kingdom such that by 1977 only 6 percent of the over 3,000 riverbanks surveyed had any traces of the playful animal.  But through crackdowns in poaching and heightened conservation, the English otter has splashed its way back to a remarkable recovery.  A recent survey found the areas otters now live in have increased 527 percent, and today otters can be found on nearly 35 percent of those same surveyed wetlands.  With private companies further helping by building dens and constructing road avoidance schemes, the future prospects for this furry British creature look bright indeed!
