For years, nuclear power has had its share of detractors. But now, a few former foes of the famed-technology are fast formulating new friendships with it. This, according to USA Today, which recently featured an article in which Senator Harry Reid, a former staunch opponent of nuclear power, now says he’s willing to give it a second look as, quote, “if it is done right, it will protect the environment.” A similar sentiment was shared by Senator Frank Lautenberg who opines that, quote, “nuclear issues are being forced on us by the realities of life.” And even a renowned environmentalist, Steward Brand the editor of the Last Whole Earth Catalog, endorses nuclear power as an important tool to lower controversial greenhouse gases.
