Incidences of shark attacks have made headline news in recent years, but what many don’t know is there exists another alarming trend with respect to, believe it or not, attacks by lions. Yes, according to an article in the journal Nature, lion attacks have increased significantly over the past fifteen years, with some five hundred and sixty three Tanzanians killed and another three hundred injured from ferocious assaults. Experts believe the mounting confrontations are occurring because people are moving closer to lion habitat. And sadly, the retaliation by native Africans against the one hundred thousand Lions remaining in the wild may further reduce populations which are already becoming threatened.
