The battle over dams and their impact on salmon is decades old, but can new technologies help solve this dilemma?  Well according to a new NOAA report, the answer is “yes”, and the Bush Administration is seeking to implement some of these new techniques to balance the needs of man and nature.  The construction of new weirs, which operate kind of like water slides, is one such measure that NOAA supports and is being pursued at a cost of some $6 billion.  Another is the introduction of hatchery fish, fish that are genetically identical to their wild counterparts and have already helped resuscitate populations.   These techniques have survived legal challenges, which means there’s clear waters ahead for these Salmon saving measures.
