Among the challenges facing our world, providing clean water is among the most pressing. But could solving much of this mega-problem be as simple as fixing a few leaks? Well the answer is yes, according to Asit Bitwas of the Third World Centre for Water Management. In accepting an award in Stockholm for his new landmark study, Bitwas noted that quote “there is no shortage of water, but there is a crisis of management of water supplies.” He noted that nearly forty to sixty percent of water never reaches the consumer in developing nations, and that by simply fixing leaky pipes and improving maintenance systems many of these shortages could be averted. For nations concerned about costs, this clean water study is proving easy to swallow.
