For many consumers, concerns about chemical pesticides motivate them to push their cart to the organic aisle. But according to a recent article in Cosmos magazine, the science supporting such a decision doesn’t merit such a detour. According to Cosmos, a recent agricultural health study looked at 90,000 farmers who were exposed to high levels of pesticides, in most cases spending more than 10 years applying them to their crops. And what did they find? Well, a preliminary report showed they actually had lower rates of cancer than the public at large, and the chairman of the study said the research tells us “that most of the chemicals we use today are not causing cancer or any other disease.” One wonders if this Cosmos article will be hard for some to digest.
