Are purchasing carbon offsets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions fueling Third World poverty? Well according to Paul Driessen of the Congress on Racial Equality, the answer is yes and he has this to say: “It has recently been uncovered that certain celebrities who are giving their money to a group called Climate Care are in fact contributing to misery in the developing world. What Climate Care claims to do with their money is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but the manner in which it does this is to provide treadle pumps to poor rural families in India so they can get water by using foot pedals instead of diesel power. These pumps were abolished in British prisons a century ago, but appear to meet with approval by environmentalists today.”
