If you heard about a robot that could trap and eat food and generate its own power, you would probably think it was just another sci-fi movie. But according to New Scientist magazine, a team of experts at a university in Bristol, England have created just such a startling contraption. Called EcoBot II, the robot uses sewage as a bait to lure flies, which it then digests using an array of microbial fuel cells that can break down the insect’s sugar to drive an electric current. At present, the robot can only travel about 5 inches per hour, but with the ability to go into dangerous areas to monitor toxic gases, this is one “killer” robot people may not be terrified to see.
