With gas prices so high, one might think that more people are taking to other means of transportation, like bicycling for instance. But according to the Planet Ark website, higher fuel prices aren’t spurring many Americans to peddle and coast. Indeed, the number of Americans who ride their bikes at least 110 days per year fell almost 10 percent last year, and the number of those who ride bikes even 6 days a year is the lowest it has been since 1984. When one also considers that less than one percent of all U.S. citizens ride their bike for personal trips, whereas in places like the Netherlands and Denmark around 20 percent do, it seems like Americans have at least, for now, put the breaks on utilizing bikes as an eco-friendly form of transportation.
