Many people believe that globalization has made matters worse for humanity and the environment. But according to Indur Goklany, author of a new book called the Improving State of the World, things from an environmental standpoint have never been better: “My book shows that despite increases in population, energy and chemical use, and pollution, human well-being has never been higher. Despite Malthusian claims, people have never been freer from hunger, healthier, or longer lived thanks to economic growth, technology, and trade in goods and knowledge. Continued human and environmental progress despite future population growth requires more of the same – strong market economies based on property rights, free trade, and technological progress.”
