Does America have sufficient reserves of domestic oil to wean ourselves off of foreign supplies? Oil giant T. Boone Pickens says no, but a new report by the National Center for Public Policy Research reveals otherwise. Comments study co-author, Amy Ridenour: “Despite Picken’s doubts, findings from the U.S. Geological Survey indicate that the East and West Coasts could yield a staggering 86 billion barrels of oil. Other untapped unconventional methods of oil extraction, such as liquefying shale, could yield one trillion barrels of oil, an amount equal to the world’s total consumption of oil since 1959. Our study indicates there is no reason to doubt that America has significant domestic sources of oil for energy.”
