Is the EPA justified in attempting to ban lead fishing products such as sinkers? Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson doesn’t believe so, and has this to say: “There is simply no data to support a ban on traditional fishing tackle and no reason for the EPA to restrict people’s ability to take advantage of the great fishing opportunities all over the country. Lead sinkers do not pose a significant threat either to wildlife or to humans, and the alternatives are often very much more expensive. We should be encouraging Americans to reconnect with the outdoors, not making it more prohibitive. Fishermen naturally care for the environment, and the EPA has no business telling them how to do so.”
