If it doesn’t become policy, it’s just talk.

I’m just back from ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, where CFACT worked with elected representatives to introduce important model legislation that lawmakers can use across the country to reform climate and energy policy in their states.

CFACT policy advisor Frank Lasee served both as a member of the Wisconsin State Senate and a member of Governor Scott Walker’s leadership team.  Frank is an expert, not only in climate and energy policy, but also in how to pass genuine reforms into law and regulation.

I worked with Frank at ALEC, and he just posted three important updates to CFACT.org.

CFACT’s model legislation shuts two Net Zero back doors.  Frank Lasee explains:

“The first, the Energy Producers and Consumers Protection Act, led by Rep. Reagan Paul of Maine, shuts the courthouse door. Across the country, trial lawyers and city attorneys have discovered that if you cannot regulate energy producers out of business, you can try to sue them out of business instead. There are about 40 climate lawsuits around the country right now… Our bill ends the game. It sets liability for lawful emissions at zero dollars unless a plaintiff can prove an actual violation of the federal Clean Air Act.”

“The second bill, the Local Government Net Zero Policy Prohibition Act, led by Rep. Thomas Peterson of Utah, shuts the city hall door. Counties, school districts, and public universities have quietly become some of the most aggressive climate regulators in the country…  Our bill stops it. Local governments will no longer spend public funds chasing net-zero mandates, and they may no longer join climate lawsuits.”

Frank also reports on a “wall of opposition” to reforms designed to enhance our power grid that CFACT encountered from utility providers seeking to protect their subsidies.  As Lasee explains, all you need to do is follow the money.

Whether it’s blocking the climate/Left from using lawfare to get around our elected representatives, activists sneaking ridiculous climate and energy burdens into local government, or exposing parasitic utilities fleecing tax and ratepayers, CFACT is there.
