Should government try to spur the growth of organic foods? Well not according to Dr. Sjoerd Duiker of Penn State University, who recently wrote that efforts like Hillary Clinton’s program to help farmers transition to organics, or those in Norway designed to set aside ten percent of that nation’s farmland to be organic, are going to improve neither public health nor protect the environment. Duiker notes that both the U.N. and USDA do not believe studies show organic food to be any safer or healthier than conventional food. And when you consider that more natural habitat would have to be plowed under to grow organic food because it is less efficient, it appears there are many weeds in these pro-organic government initiatives.
