Consumers will pay big for Obama’s energy plan

pixiedustPresident Obama’s “clean power plan” brings new meaning to his lead from behind strategy. It involves replacing reliable fossil energy sources with pixie-dust-powered alternatives.

Only one day following the Supreme Court’s ruling to block the EPA’s planned power plant mercury emission regulations, he committed the U.S. to a goal of generating 20% of all electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

That means at least three times more subsidies than we currently blow on windmills and burn with sunbeams . . . and that’s a lot.

Wind and solar each already receive more than 50 times more subsidy support per megawatt-hour than conventional coal, and more than 20 times more in terms of average electricity generated by coal and natural gas.

According to U.S. Energy Information Administration figures, annual “Federal interventions and subsidies” for wind (4.4% of American electricity) costs for taxpayers ranged from $5.5 billion and $5.9 billion between 2010 and 2013, and from $1.1 billion rocketing up to $4.5 billion for solar (0.4% of our electricity) during that period. For comparison, those allocated to fossil fuels (about 60% of total electricity) dropped from $4 billion to $3.4 billion.

Although lemming powers of observation aren’t highly regarded, wouldn’t you think witnessing fellow critters plunge en masse over cliff unemploymentlineedges would offer cause for some among them to reconsider the perilous path ahead?

Painful EU experiences offer teachable lessons. Consider Denmark, for example. On Earth Day, 2010, President Obama praised the country as a great Green power model. And yes, while the country theoretically produces about 20% of its electricity from wind and solar, CEPOS, a Danish think tank, reported that this only supplied between 5% and 9.7% of average annual demand over the previous 5-year period.

Danish consumers pay the highest electricity rates in Europe, more than three times more than we do.

Existing German energy policies, where 7.8% of electricity comes from wind and 4.5% derives from solar, force households to fork out for the second highest power costs in Europe — often as much as 30% above the levels seen in other European countries.
Such circumstances are only likely to worsen with Chancellor Angela Merkel’s plans to wean the country off fossil fuels and nuclear power. Subsidies for wind power — which delivers only about one-fifth of the theoretical installed capacity — are three times higher than those paid for conventional electricity.

angelaPresident Obama also lauded Spain as a fine example of renewable energy progress. Yet a study released by researchers at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos a few months later presented a far less enviable picture.

Over the previous 8 years the Spanish government had spent $791,597 in subsidies to create each Green energy job, and exceeded $1.38 million per wind energy job.

Each of those Green solar jobs cost 2.2 jobs in lost opportunities elsewhere in the workforce, and each megawatt of installed wind energy capacity destroyed 4.27 other jobs.

Italy’s wind and solar experience record is even worse. According to a study conducted by researchers at the Bruno Leoni Institute, the amount of capital required to generate one job in the renewable sector would create between 4.8 and 6.9 jobs in the industrial sector or elsewhere just based upon subsidies alone.  Of the 50,000 to 120, 000 renewable jobs they propose to create by 2020, 60% will be temporary.

Experiences in the United Kingdom are reportedly similar to those in other EU countries. A study by Verso Economics determined that each renewable job “created” by subsidies displaced 3.7 others in their general economy. “Renewable Obligations,” which increase market prices for electricity from renewable sources, cost U.K. consumers an additional $1.75 billion during 2009/2010.

In 2011 British wind turbines produced a meager 21% of installed capacity (not demand capacity) during good conditions.

As in Germany, this has made it necessary for the U.K. to import nuclear power from France. Also similar to Germany, the government Francenukeis closing some of its older coal-fired plants — any one of which can produce nearly twice the electricity of Britain’s 3,000 wind turbines combined.

Yeah, and then there’s our own uber-Green California, which mandates that renewables provide 33% of the state’s electricity by 2020 and proposes to increase to 50% by 2030.

Over just the past 3 years their electricity rates have already risen by 2.18 cents per kilowatt hour — about four times the national rate — as more and more wind and solar came on line.

Meanwhile, so long as natural gas drilling is restricted, climate crisis hoax-premised EPA regulations strangle fossil power generation, and nuclear energy expansion is delayed, we are racing hell-bent along the same road to perdition. Let’s consider the peril before joining the EU and California lemming pack in a final, fatal jump.

June 22, 2014 Shut down costly slush fund: Opposing view

Export-Import Bank’s actions are nothing more than market-distorting subsidies. What do Solyndra, Enron and Mexican drug cartels have in common? The answer may come as a surprise to most Americans. It’s a little-known agency called the Export-Import Bank, a government-sponsored slush fund that gives taxpayer-backed loans and loan guarantees to foreign entities to buy U.S. exports. Solyndra, Enron and even Mexican drug cartels have benefited from these wasteful subsidies.

One of the most effective ways of reducing energy consumption for a house is to increase the insulation of the thermal envelope. Increase fiberglass insulation in the attic to 15″ thick and in the basement floors to the full depth of joists. The inclusion of new storm doors will also cut down on drafts. The improvement costs are reasonable and the payback is short.

I advise everyone to checkout Prager University videos. They have different experts that present interesting short videos (because American’s attention span is so short). I watched one yesterday by the cofounder of Greenpeace who left thst organization because he said there were no scientistsanymore just lliberals who were not well informed. I can’t remember his name but he has a Ph.D in ecology & he said if the EPA has their wish to cut downCO2 emissions to zero in the future
it would kill all of us & the entire world. I come from a nursing background which rewuired chemistry & biology. What do humans exhale-CO2. What makes plants & trees grow-CO2. In fact this man pointed out that almost all things have carbon in them including humans. So where does the insanity end? Remember the ozone layer? Haven’t heard that mentioned in awhile. This president has never studied chemistry, biology or history. Most true climatologists believe the sun & solar flares have the biggest impact on the planet, not humans. The next biggest impact are volcanos. To save us all, the EPA needs to be abolished.

Excellent Post ! yet another example of what psychologists have repeatedly discovered in study after study, average people in a society who are confronted with a single issue that is heavily promoted by the government’s officials, and the designated information source in that society, will always support that issue with little to no justification. In other words, the herd will willingly march into the slaughter house !

Thanks for the compliment. I notice all my typos. I use an 8″ tablet & my
fingers aren’t small. Add to that I never get enough sleep. I try editing but sometimes I lose the whole thing. Our educational system is not set up to teach critical thinking. The students might discover they are being brainwashed! When I first
hear a controversial news story, I research it by looking for other sources. Somebody else likened us to lemmings that follow each other over the cliff. The EPA mandates all the same rules for every state which is ludicrous. Each state has various elements in their soil & atmosphere that make it impossible to eliminate. Ban wood burning stoves in Appalachia, where there is much poverty & people have no heat. Force ethanol that is not meant for small engines, costs more to make & gives less mileage, not to mention starving more people in 3rd world countries & on it goes. I’m hoping there are enough of the sane ones to start fighting back against this insanity.

Two or three generations of Americans who were never asked to participate in any meaningful way to activities that contribute to the cohesiveness of this society. Just take care of number one and let everyone else fend for themselves. For example, they have been told that those who participate in the military are losers who lack the motivation to better themselves but they see veterans returning from foreign battle fields and are told that they should honor the sacrifice these people have made for this country. I’m in no way supporting joining the military but it is one of many alternatives for young people looking to contribute to their society. As the late president John Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country !”. Young people looking for a meaningful existence is nothing new, an existence that confirms they are truly part of something that is very special. We can’t and shouldn’t blame those, who through no fault of their own, are seduced by am array of practiced fanatics and con artists that are always ready and willing to convince those naïve and easily coerced individuals that they will be accepted into a larger group of like individuals that are pursuing the true path to mankind’s long term survival. As P.T Barnum said several years ago, “There’s a sucker born ever minute” !

I would have been much better off if I had joined the Air Force when I graduated from nursing school in 1975. I would have gone in as a 1st or 2nd Lt. & they would have paid for more degrees & I could have retired by now. Instead my health is shot & I can no longer work. My least favorite is “Free, free Palestine from the Jordan to the Sea”. They are clueless about history. Dennis Prager did a very simple video about the history of the whole mess. Today Obama said just today that just because Iranians shant Death to America, it doesn’t mean anything. He clearly has never studied WWII history or Neville Chamberlain. This guy is a lunatic & peevish. He could have accomplished so much but instead he has too many personality defects to be effective. He’s divided this country like no other president in history. I grew up during the Viet Nam era & it was pathetic. If you look at some of the news videos, you can see the sadness & lost looks in their eyes. I believe that was the beginning of our drug problem. Many in my graduating class came back a mess. We need to keep a voluntary military but Obama hates the military & is pink slipping officers that don’t a
agree with his stupid policies. I just hope we can survive the remaining months of his presidency.

  6. ptsstaff August 3, 2015 at 12:34 PM

I do not understand Obama’s crusade to clone California’s “emission” crusade, as it’s taken California 10 years to learn that emission rhetoric has failed.

California’s flagship climate change policy Assembly Bill 32 was signed into law in 2006, at a time when California was contributing a minuscule 1 percent to the world’s greenhouse gases. AB32 has dramatically changed the state’s transportation fuels and shifted our energy sources away from oil to renewables. Nearly a decade later, California still contributes a miniscule 1 percent and has had little to no impact on the reduction of global GHG emissions.

The latest California Climate Change Initiatives, will necessitate the state to reduce California’s 1% contribution to the worlds greenhouse gas emissions by more than 80 percent, down to 0.2% by 2050.

Yet, California continues on a go-it-alone crusade that generates millions of dollars for the government at the expense of businesses and the financially challenged as the costs of burdensome regulations disproportionately affect young people and other Americans who are living within limited means.

    • rltmlt August 5, 2015 at 9:30 AM

The reason there has been an increasing number of younger workers and their families leaving California for years to find an affordable standard of living in surrounding states that promote realistic public funding expectations that allow their citizens to keep more of their incomes so that they can maintain a reasonable standard of living. Liberals in this country have been on a fifty year spending spree using working people’s tax Dollars to promote their unsustainable social agenda and they have lost touch with the fact that over the last thirty years the government has allowed private industry to export most of our living wage jobs to low cost sweatshop labor countries, living wage jobs that at one time paid for all of this. Hard to continue funding a liberal wonderland in this country when the working class citizens of this country are increasingly facing a 3rd world standard of living. It’s for sure that the remaining private businesses and the private bankers won’t be picking up the tab !

  11. Myles Standish August 3, 2015 at 3:31 PM

Mind-boggling! He and his staff seek those ways in which other countries were devastated economically, followed by adopting those ways for our country. If that doesn’t reveal a madman bent on our country’s destruction, I don’t know what does! And the media and the congress just sit on their hands and allow him to get away with his on-going tyrannical behavior! Chain of command? What’s that?!? Protocol? What’s that?!? The Constitution? Never heard of it! All the while, the media acts like they will get a pass on rate hikes, because they sure aren’t going to report anything negative about this illegal executive action that might tarnish their messiah’s image. Heck no! So how much is the media willing to ignore when it starts to affect their own pocketbooks? That will be the real test of their loyalty. But for now, the rate hikes are a ways off, so like any dyed-in-the-wool liberal, they’ll just play along and worry about the future when it gets here. In the meantime, they collectively sit on their brains and try not to use them unless absolutely necessary.

  12. oaking August 3, 2015 at 3:47 PM

    1) Stop providing electricity to congress and the white house – for decades oil lamps worked just fine.
    2) Demand that the individuals in the white house reduce their personal CO2 emissions by 50%, preferably by suspending their breathing.

  13. Deb August 3, 2015 at 4:08 PM

another step to ruin us. West Virginia has been hit big, my largest electric bill in 2014 was $300.00 in 2015 it was $900.00. They claim it was a 27% increase, they must be using common core math because we can’t afford this! obama’s legacy is to prove he can screw us over and we will do nothing, just like he has set us up with Iran and those PIGS! He wants us on food stamps, welfare, obama no one cares, now kill your babies ,proclaim there is no God and he can be Mao and kill as many as he wants. I say to hell with him, his administration and his phony legacy, he is the worst snake-oil salesman ever to hit our shores!

    • KLH6 August 5, 2015 at 4:09 PM

Amen! I just saw a clip in 1995 of Obama. He admits he learned everything from his communist mentor, Frank & I can’t remember last name at the moment. But it’s no secret his parents & grandparents were communist. The press didn’t do their job & neither did the American people. Obama is incapable of looking at cause & effect. I looked at our last utility bill & it
has 19 taxes & fees. They even punish us for not using as much gas in the summer. Did you read recently where a suburb of San Diego (Poway maybe?)had cut their consumption of water so much because of draught, they couldn’t store in resevoir for some reason, so they dumped over 500,000 gallons of water down canyon. Same thing happened where we live. They asked us to cut consumption due to draught. But then complained they didn’t make as much money!

  14. Deb August 3, 2015 at 4:09 PM

All the pictures they show of the turbins emitting white smoke that is not pollution it is water vapor.

  15. Austinniceguy August 3, 2015 at 4:34 PM

And why not? it was just a few years ago that his administration gave Solyndra 535 MILLION dollars which vanished into thin air when the company went bankrupt within a year of receiving the cash. This turd doesn’t care where the money comes from as long as it comes in and he spends it before paying the bills he has already accrued. He’ll have bankrupted this country before he leaves office and stump-legged Hitlery will make sure the job is done if she gets into office. These people simply DO NOT care about anyone or anything other than their personal agendas. Unfortunately, their agendas include welfare and subsidies for millions upon millions of poor, uneducated welfare cockroaches who will do anything to stay on the gov tit. Including voting Hitlery into office.

  19. 4TimesAYear August 3, 2015 at 10:06 PM

They keep telling us the cost of electricity didn’t go up as a result of pollution controls in the 80’s. Does anyone really believe that? Regulations cost us money – not just at the resource end, but taxes to monitor as well.

The poor will suffer the most and the lower half voted for him. He said in his speech “utility costs would skyrocket!” And the bozos still voted for him TWICE!

That means every product will skyrocket because offices, manufacturing plants, deliveries and more all use power to manage, process, refrigerate and organize.

    The left built that!

Just like the left took over detroit- a internation auto industry and they took it down in 60 yrs! This president will take america down in 6 yrs and america may not recover and many will lose everything!

Voting has consequences, personally no one should have voted for a “community organizer” whos past was scrubbed.

The world will never be the same. Better appreciate the little ypu have because the rest will be taxed –

So when he said the rich would pay- everyone smart enough with basic math skills knew that wasnt possible. The wealthy already pay most of the taxes supporting 60-80% of the population and soon they will die of old age. Then hell opens its doors.

A simple math equation would have shown this was going to happen- baby boomers have been carrying this nation for some time. Now their old and no longer working- do the math!

  22. Warren O'Really August 5, 2015 at 8:00 AM

The BOMB-SHELL went off last year in Australia with “Not for Greens” book by Ian Plimer.

(“Not For Greens” is a powerful critique of the green movement and the damage it has done to living standards around the world).

Ian Rutherford Plimer is an Australian geologist, professor emeritus of earth sciences at the University of Melbourne, professor of mining geology at the University of Adelaide, and the director of multiple mineral exploration and mining companies. He has published 130 scientific papers, six books and edited the Encyclopedia of Geology.

Where Does the Carbon Dioxide Really Come From?

PLIMER: “Okay, here’s the bombshell. The recent volcanic eruption in Iceland . Since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet – all of you.

Of course, you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress – it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.

I know….it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kids “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50p light bulbs with £5 light bulbs ….. well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in just four days – yes, FOUR DAYS – by that volcano in Iceland has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud at any one time – EVERY DAY.

I don’t really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippinesin 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth.

Yes, folks, Mt. Pinatubo was active for over one year – think about it!!!!

Of course, I shouldn’t spoil this ‘touchy-feely tree-hugging’ moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keeps happening despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the westernUSA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.

Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you, on the basis of the bogus ‘human-caused’ climate-change scenario.

Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention ‘Global Warming’ anymore, but just ‘Climate Change’ – you know why? It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past few years and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.

And, just keep in mind that you might yet have an Emissions Trading Scheme – that whopping new tax – imposed on you that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer. It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.

But, hey, relax……give the world a hug and have a nice day!!

    • KLH6 August 5, 2015 at 4:23 PM

Finally, a voice of reason in the wilderness & there are 1500 potentially active volcanoes so imagine if they all start erupting. But if you are arrogant enough to believe you can control the universe, this is what you get. If we acknowlege there is a God or “higher power” then we realize there are many things out of our control. In other words we need to be more humble. Why does no one try to put the brakes on this runaway president? He is a madman playing with our lives.
