A Washington, D.C., councilman apologized Sunday for alleging a small snowstorm in the nation’s capital was caused by Jewish bankers, Fox News reported.

Democratic councilman Trayon White Sr. apologized for his “anti-Semitic” comments while reasserting his commitment to fighting “racism and prejudices of all kinds.”

In a Friday Facebook video, White pushed a theory that the Rothschild family, a European banking dynasty descended from Mayer Amschel Rothschild in the 18th century, were manipulating the weather and responsible for “climate control,” The Washington Post reported.

“Man, it just started snowing out of nowhere this morning, man. Y’all better pay attention to this climate control, man, this climate manipulation,” White said. “And D.C. keep talking about, ‘We a resilient city.’ And that’s a model based off the Rothschilds controlling the climate to create natural disasters they can pay for to own the cities, man. Be careful.”

Rabbi Daniel Zemel, who serves in Temple Micah in Washington, D.C., denounced White’s comments.

“This kind of anti-Semitism is unacceptable in any public official. This so diminishes what America is about and adds to the oppressive feeling going on in the country right now,” Zemel said, according to WaPo. “We all have to be better. Public officials have to learn not to say the first ignorant thing that comes into their head.”

The Rothschilds have been central players in a number of conspiracy theories that allege 80 percent of the world’s wealth is secretly controlled by the family and used to manipulate international events. The conspiracy theories have either been debunked or are impossible to prove.
