During the lazy, hazy days of summer, there are few things Americans enjoy more than a good backyard barbeque with fresh veggies.  But according to health experts, its important to make sure food is prepared properly or you may be cooking up more than just a good burger.  The reason: food borne illness still remains a troublesome problem as it sickens some 76,000 Americans each year, sends 323,000 to the hospital, and kills over 5,000 people.  The good news, according to the CDC, is that such illnesses are on the decline, as E. coli fell by 36 percent, campylobacter  by 28 percent, and even salmonella dropped by a hefty 17 percent from last year’s levels. So wash up, cook throughly, and let’s hopefully munch on more good news.
