When people think about quail hunting, the image of a gun-toting vice president and his errant shot might come to mind. But according to Brian Yablonski of the group, PERC, less well known is the fact that pursuit of this small game bird has preserved important ecosystems, like the Red Hills of Northern Florida. Many wealthy businessmen and celebrities come to the Red Hills because of its excellent quail hunting, and this has led to prosperous land management programs that now house 60 different protected plants and animals in this region alone. Indeed, with private landowners spending over $100 per acre each year to manage the land – an amount the government could never afford – it appears quail hunting is a nice bounty for all of nature.
