Recently, a bill was introduced in Congress to hold up efforts to increase domestic oil and gas production both off-shore and in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. But according to Congressman Don Young of Alaska, this is not wise public policy. Comments Congressman Young: “In Alaska, we have about 15.6 billion barrels of oil, and 77 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. We have ANWR, which is 10.4 billion barrels, which would give us a total of 38 billion barrels of oil to produce for the United States. The reason I think this is extremely important is we ought to be developing our own oil, on our own shores, so we’re not dependant on foreign countries who are not friends of America.”
