Are Americans sold on the idea that they must pay more to combat so-called global warming? Well if a recent poll is any indication, the answer is a resounding “No!” Conducted by the National Center for Public Policy Research, the poll found just 18 percent of those questioned willing to pay 50 cents more per gallon to reduce greenhouse emissions. Opposition to increased gasoline taxes was especially strong among minorities, with 53 percent of African-Americans, and 78 percent of Hispanics voicing their opposition. With nearly 50 percent also stating they wouldn’t even support raising gasoline taxes one penny, it seems fears of global warming haven’t prompted Americans to reach down into their pockets very far.
