The Green New Deal was designed to “mobilize every aspect of American society on a scale not seen since World War II.”

That’s how Freshman Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s fact sheet pitched the plan.

Yesterday it was shot down 57-0 by the Senate.  The entire Republican caucus and three Democrats voted against it.

The rest of the Senate courageously voted “present,” including the GND’s Senate co-sponsors.

Does anyone know whether any Senators voted “present” after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor?

Senators were terrified to go on the record backing the GND after the public learned it would cost trillions, accomplish nothing, and was really a vehicle to promote a barely-concealed Socialist agenda.  Representative Ocasio-Cortez has, after all, declared herself a Socialist numerous times in public.

The GND’s defeat is great news for those of us in the climate and energy reality camp.

The Green new danger is, however, far from over.

Be on the lookout for legislators from both parties to start introducing measures that force us part way there.  They’ll be particularly enthusiastic for measures that enrich their supporters through subsidies, mandates and set-asides that once enacted are near impossible to end.

CFACT’s Marc Morano describes this approach as “GND lite,” which in the long run is just as insidious.

Drinking half a glass of hemlock is no more sane than quaffing the full cup.
