Recently, Democratic Presidential nominee John Kerry announced a plan which details how America can become more energy independent. But some, like Ben Lieberman of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, believe the plan is seriously flawed: Comments Lieberman: “Senator Kerry’s call for research into alternatives to fossil fuels isn’t likely to do any good.  This kind of research has been going on for decades, and the federal government has already spent tens of billions in tax dollars on it.  And the only thing we have learned about these alternatives is that they all have serious problems of there own.  Like it or not, we will need fossil fuels for the forseeable future, and the government should be taking steps to ensure that these fuels remain as affordable as the market will allow.”
