Environmental Group Releases Video Report on Opposition to Okefenokee Swamp UNESCO Designation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), a free market environmental 501(c)(3) organization, has released a video exposing concerns about a Biden-era policy to designate the Okefenokee Swamp, a national wildlife refuge that stretches across the Georgia-Florida border, as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.

The video, titled “Save Okefenokee Swamp From UNESCO Control,” is part of CFACT’s Conservation Country YouTube series and features interviews with local lawmakers and concerned activists. Concerns raised include the loss of outdoor recreation opportunities, impacts on commercial activities, and the ceding of U.S. sovereignty to a United Nations (UN) entity.

The Okefenokee landgrab by UNESCO is not America-First,” said Gabriella Hoffman, host of CFACT’s video series and award-winning outdoor journalist. “All three counties bordering Okefenokee Swamp have voted against UNESCO coming into their backyard. Public lands access and property rights would be infringed if this action proceeds. I’m confident the Trump administration will correct this Biden-era error and protect the integrity of this invaluable place.”

CFACT’s video report comes after the Trump administration initiated its formal exit from UNESCO in July 2025, effective December 31, 2026.

The Department of the Interior can reject this bid,” said Brooks Strickland, co-founder of Americans for the Okefenokee. “We don’t want global influence here. President Trump took us out of UNESCO recently. He understands the concern.”
