Fired up over foolish federal forest policies

There is no doubt that fires burn in both managed and unmanaged forests, the difference is that in managed areas the timbering itself creates natural fire breaks, creates man-made access to the outbreak making it easier to fight, and the forestry practice itself is designed to protect the maximum number of trees from fire. The disaster of a fire ravaging a forest becomes doubly acute for a company that owns the rights to cut timber. For a timber company, a devastating forest fire is not only an environmental disaster, but also an economic one that destroys the product that they plan to harvest to provide the wood the world needs to build homes, furniture and other structures.

Environmentalists Sue to Stop Arizona Mine

In the latest development surrounding the proposed Rosemont mine in southern Arizona, two environmental groups – the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) and Save the Scenic Santa Ritas (SSSR) – filed suit August 16 to overturn a key state permit the project recently received.

Noon: Tie Syria support to boosting domestic oil and gas priorities

Energy is a big part of the entire Middle East discussion. Many people believe that if the U.S. were not dependent on OPEC oil, we’d have no involvement in the centuries-old tribal conflicts. Any vote for the President’s plan should be tied to decreasing dependence, increasing independence—or, more accurately, North American oil security. Two specific policy directives are needed. First, tie any authorization of military action in Syria to approval of the Keystone pipeline,.... Second, allow access to domestic oil and gas resources and expedite drilling permits on federal lands.

Time to shed some light on phony federal “science”

With so many federal reports containing no data – only conclusions put forth by another scientist – there is no way to debate, debunk, or disprove the underlying facts. It’s almost impossible even to get court orders to track down and disclose the data, if Freedom of Information Act requests are denied, which they frequently are (legally or otherwise). If there is no way to test a statement, hypothesis or theory, it is not science. It’s opinion or politics. If you hide the raw data, no one can test it, and it’s easy for agenda-driven “researchers” and regulators to implement laws that are based on junk science or even fraud.

EPA: Bungling biofuels buffoonery

EPA’s primary role is to confirm what was already laid out by statute in terms of annual volumes of biofuels. That so called “renewable fuels schedule” established in 2005 and update in 2007 requires an ever increasing amount of biofuel to be blended into the nation’s fuel supply until the total hits 36 billion gallons in 2022. Those volumes, however, are completely unrealistic – a fact even EPA recognizes.

Morano on Fox News: Obama bypassing Congress on climate

Morano appeared on FNC's "Special Report" on August 16, 2013 to discuss President Obama's global warming plans. "The Obama administration is being strategically brilliant by doing this behind the scenes,” said Morano. “They’re going to achieve everything that cap and trade, and UN treaties and even a carbon tax would achieve through the invisibility of federal regulations.”

Reagan vs. Obama: Not even close on energy policy

Obama doesn’t believe in the technology, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Americans, Pendley told me. He believes in big government and its regulations. Pendley points out how he’s given the environmentalists a seat at the table where Reagan denied them the moral high ground. When the environmentalists—who for the previous two decades had been cloaked with an aura of inevitability, invincibility, and infallibility—said they “spoke for the planet and the needs of all living things not human,” Reagan responded: he “spoke for the dream of the American people and for the unborn generations to be free and prosperous.”

Fracking yields trillions in benefits!

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, fracking requires just 0.6 to 5.8 gallons of water per million Btu of energy produced. By comparison, “renewable” and “sustainable” corn-based ethanol requires 2,510 to 29,100 gallons per million Btu of usable energy – and biodiesel from soybeans consumes an astounding and unsustainable 14,000 to 75,000 gallons of water per million Btu!

Senate hearing proves Obama is lying about “climate change”

Spencer pointed out: “The magnitude of global-average atmospheric warming between 1997 and 2012 is only about 50% that predicted by the climate models.… The level of warming in the most recent 15-year period is not significantly different from zero, despite this being the period of greatest greenhouse gas concentration. This is in stark contrast to claims that warming is ‘accelerating.’”

USDA shirking its responsibility to inspect organic food!

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) prohibits synthetic nitrogen fertilizer in organic production and encourages natural compost. But it does not test for un-composted feces. At least 140 people across eight states have now fallen ill after consuming hepatitis-A-infected certified-organic frozen berries and pomegranate seeds; 61 were still in hospitals in mid-July.

Climate alarmism’s 10,000 commandments

Even the most die-hard alarmists have finally recognized that average global temperatures have hardly budged since 1997, even as atmospheric levels of plant-fertilizing CO2 climbed steadily. For many areas, the past winter was among the coldest in decades; the USA and Britain just recorded one their coldest springs on record; and satellite data show that Earth has actually cooled slightly since 2002.

Obama promises an end to cheap energy!

Shellenberger and Nordhous state: “In the name of democracy it now offers the global poor not what they want—cheap electricity—but more of what they don’t want, namely intermittent and expensive power” which “offers the poor no path to the kinds of high-energy lifestyles Western environmentalists take for granted.... Will California finally choose greenbacks over Green ideology?

A recent study -- Powering California: The Monterey Shale & California’s Economic Future -- found that development of oil from the Monterey Shale using hydraulic fracturing and other recovery technologies could result in (a) the creation of 512,000 to 2.8 million new jobs; (b) personal income growth of $40.6 billion to $222.3 billion; (c) additional local and state government revenues from $4.5 billion to $24.6 billion, and (d) an increase in state GDP by 2.6% to 14.3% on a per-person basis.
