Energy civil rights

CFACT Senior Policy Analyst Paul Driessen explains that policies that raise electricity rates have devastating impacts on the poor and on large medical facilities who serve the poor. Thus it is ironic at best that the U.S. Civil Rights Commission has come down on the side of raising rates (in effect) by siding with the fear mongers who demand an impossible to meet standards for chromium 6 in drinking water -- standards an order of magnitude tighter than what is known to be safe.

Who is guarding the (dictatorial) guards?

CFACT Senior Policy Analyst Paul Driessen explains how the EPA and other federal agencies are increasingly holding businesses, local governments, and private citizens accountable to unachievable standards while at the same time excusing their own illegal behavior.

Powering countries, empowering people

CFACT Senior Policy Analyst Paul Driessen cuts to the point -- that billions of people in Africa, india, and elsewhere are systematically being denied reliable access (or any access) to electricity by cold-hearted bureaucrats and elitist governments who have decided for these people that no electricity is better than fossil fuel electricity (or even hydro). Yet when people do gain access to affordable energy, their productivity can skyrocket.

“Toxic chromium” fear-mongering

Erin Brockovich became rich and famous by promoting the notion that people in Hinkley, CA, got cancer because of hexavalent chromium (Chromium-6) in drinking water. Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) settled a 1993 lawsuit for $333 million, rather than risk trial by a jury frightened by a steady drumbeat of horror stories from lawyers, activists, celebrities, “journalists,” and hired “experts.” The lawyers got $134 million in fees, and Ms. Brockovich pocketed a cool $2-million bonus – plus movie royalties and other cash. Now Ms. B is trying to reprise her California success, by bringing the Cr-6 saga to North Carolina. She [...]

Confusion, muddle, obfuscation and racism

Winston Churchill called Russia a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. We could say Obama’s energy and climate policy is confusion wrapped in muddled thinking inside obfuscation – and driven by autocratic diktats that bring job-killing, economy-strangling, racist, and deadly outcomes. President Obama was recently in China, where his vainglorious arrival turned into an inglorious snub, when he had to use Air Force 1’s rear exit. He was there mostly to join Chinese President Xi Jinping and UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon to formally sign the Paris climate treaty that Mr. Obama insists is not a treaty (and thus does not [...]

EPA’s dangerous regulatory pollution

If you’re wondering whether to trust the Environmental Protection Agency on mercury, ozone, climate change, or other regulatory actions, you need look no further than how it has handled particulates. EPA whitewashed the toxic flashflood it caused in Colorado. But it says particulate matter smaller than 10 microns (PM10) is risky and worries incessantly about 2.5-micron particles. (A human hair is 50-70 microns; dust, pollen, and mold are around 10; combustion exhaust particles are 2.5 microns or smaller.) The tinier specks, EPA asserts, “can get deep into your lungs, and some may even get into your bloodstream.” Eliminating all such particles [...]

Don’t bee-lieve the latest bee-pocalypse scare

As stubborn facts ruin their narrative that neonicotinoid pesticides are causing a honeybee-pocalypse, environmental pressure groups are shifting to new scares to justify their demands for “neonic” bans. Honeybee populations and colony numbers in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and elsewhere are growing. It is also becoming increasingly clear that the actual cause of bee die-offs and “colony collapse disorders” is not neonics, but a toxic mix of predatory mites, stomach fungi, other microscopic pests, and assorted chemicals employed by beekeepers trying to control the beehive infestations. Naturally, anti-pesticide activists have seized on a recent study purporting to show that [...]

Fracturing common sense

Wealthy anti-fracking zealots created a petition campaign to try to shut down the entire oil and gas industry in Colorado -- but say little about the costs of their extreme proposals.

Olympic-sized climate propaganda

CFACT Senior Policy Advisor Paul Driessen shows how the blathering video shown at the Rio Olympics opening ceremony is replete with lies and distortions -- and speculates that the intent was to refocus attention away from the Zika virus, polluted water, crime, and other bad news coming out of Rio and as usual to scare people into surrendering their freedoms.

Ecological double standards

CFACT Senior Policy Advisor Paul Driessen, noting that both major party candidates for President support local control over fracking, suggests that local control should also extend to wind farms, solar arrays, forest management, and other issues that today are rigged in favor of those who shut down or redirect development by fiat.

Keeping the poor impoverished

To the world's poor, electricity (including air conditioning), modern highways, quality medical care, and so much more of the good things first world people take for granted are routinely denied them out of concern for the environment (sic), or rather the elites' insistence that they rule over the poor with a paternalistic (slavemaster) hand. CFACT Senior Policy Advisor Paul Driessen calls the actions of these elites "callous, immoral, eco-imperialistic, and genocidal." As newly elected Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte says, "They think they can dictate our destiny," but we will not submit to their rule.

The Hillary treatment for climate fraudsters?

Maybe Eric Schneiderman and his fellow AGs are onto something -- they are just investigating the wrong side. Instead of criminalizing differences of opinion or inconvenient facts, we might do well to root out actual fraud, let real science prevail, and protect our livelihoods and living standards from unscrupulous people and organizations that are using fraudulent climate chaos claims to control energy use, transform the U.S. and global economic systems, and redistribute the world’s wealth.
