New report cool to Antarctic ice melt

While many believe the Antarctic ice sheet is melting at a rapid rate because of global warming, a new report by the Science and Public Policy Institute begs to differ. Comments study co-author, Bob Ferguson: “The behavior of the Antarctic cryosphere is not well understood or explained. Sea ice extent is growing at a record rate, and land ice may be shrinking. It is not known whether either of these trends will continue. Importantly, neither matches the climate model projections offered by global warming proponents, and current changes do not well-represent the recent past. There is no firm scientific [...]

Antarctica’s increasing snow

Images of ice sheets falling into the sea are common to global warming concerns. But according to the World Climate Report, the carefully studied situation in Anarctica shows anything but a melting pole. A paper recently published in Geophysical Research Letters says there has been a doubling of snow accumulation in the western Antarctic Peninsula since the 1850, and no significant change in snowfall across the continent as a whole over the past 50-plus years. Indeed, the United Nation’s own science body sees only localized changes, and a “lack of warming...in atmospheric temperatures averaged across the region.” So while [...]

Two studies lessen concerns of Antarctic warming

By

“Higher average temperatures result in the melting of glaciers, in ice being discharged into the oceans from the ice caps of Antarctica.”      So stated Al Gore in his well-known book, Earth in the Balance. Indeed for years, many have been echoing similar alarms about the state of the Antarctic, claiming that rising temperatures are causing a melting of the polar cap and a rise in sea levels.     Such rising sea levels, of course, could cause all manner of mayhem – as coastal cities and tropical islands would be covered in ever-rising ocean waters and whole ecosystems and urban populations [...]
