Scientists in Germany reveal flaws in UN science as COP 21 concludes

As COP 21 went into extra innings in Le Bourget, France, scientists assembled from around the world in Essen, Germany to present the hard facts that reveal just how wrong the UN is about global warming.

Shaking out the lies surrounding earthquakes and hydraulic fracturing

Once again, CFACT advisor Marita Noon sheds light on the lies of the anti-fracking, anti-fossil-fuel crowd. This time she shows how Leftists falsely claim that fracking is a significant cause of earthquakes, when in fact science has shown that the problem is oversaturation due to reinjection of produced water into deep wells. The truth is that fracking operations often can use this water that otherwise would be reinjected, minimizing the problem.

Wyoming farmer in EPA’s crosshairs

Wyoming farmer Andy Johnson is the unlikely target of an EPA vendetta -- facing tens of millions of dollars in fines for daring to build a stock pond -- which the Clean Water Act specifically bars the agency from regulating -- on his property after obtaining all the required state permits. Meanwhile, the agency is facing no penalties at all for its massive spill of metals-laden water into the Animas River in New Mexico.

Obama’s Clean Power Plan: Solar companies win, taxpayers lose

The solar industry is jubilant over President Obama’s Clean Power Plan, released in its final form on Monday, August 3. The same day, however, some other news reminded the public of what happens when government policy mandates and incentivizes a favored energy source: Taxpayer dollars are gobbled up and investors lose out. “The fundamental objective of the Clean Power Plan,” according to Solar Industry Magazine, “is the phasing out of coal-fired power plants in favor of low- or zero-emission sources…” It does this through three “building blocks,” one of which is: “increase electricity generation from non-emitting renewable sources, such as solar [...]

Ethanol and biodiesel: Guilty as charged

Biodiesel and ethanol are killers -- and thieves of fuel efficiency, engine life, and pocketbooks. They exist in our society primarily thanks to corruptible politicians who took advantage of an "oil crisis" to entrench themselves into the American automobile. They typically reduce gas mileage, increase engine wear, and create a multitude of other problems for consumers -- including higher expenses for transportation.

Japan: The other nuclear country

Since Japan shut down all of its nuclear power plants after Fukushima, the nation has suffered from high fuel costs that make Japanese products less competitive in the world economy. Japan thus rejoins a number of nations who rely on uranium (and now thorium) as well as fossil fuels -- because it was the economically wise thing to do. Would that the U.S. would base at least some of its energy policy (sic) on economics.

Climate alarmism helps Republicans

Recent history shows that strident actions by radical Greens has had negative impacts for Democratic Party candidates in followup elections. Current polls show growing disinterest in environmentalist causes, and for good reason. The cataclysmic predictions have just not come true. Frustration increases as government impsoes ever more stringent regulations to solve a problem fewer and fewer consider important. In short, keep up the good work, guys!

Pope’s climate position will hurt poor countries

An April report issued by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences presents a likely sneak preview of an “Apostolic Exhortation” that Pope Francis will introduce at a UN General Assembly meeting later this year. Headlined to “Safeguard Creation,” it will warn of dire threats posed by human-caused climate change which, in turn, are rooted in excessive capitalist consumption. The message draws directly from religious doctrine of the United Nations, its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in particular. Following the IPCC script, the solution to global ills and disparities is to replace fossil energy with anemic, [...]

The EPA and Obama blame asthma on “global warming”

The EPA and the White House are once again bringing up the dead horse of "global warming" (aka "climate change") to scare the American people into accepting their radical, job-killing, health-destroying bad ideas. The science does not align with their dictates, but until someone stops them they will continue to weaken and sicken America with wrong-headed policies that punish achievement and reward cronies.

Shakeup at Virginia land trust makes waves

Heather Richards may have resigned from her job with the Piedmont Environmental Council, but she is in a position of even greater authority now as chair of the Land Trust Accredication Commission -- and one wonders whether other land trusts are also abusing power as the PEC clearly did. As for Richards, she cannot even seem to tell the truth about her upbringing.

Solar panel companies deceive homeowners

Fueled by subsidies and mandates, the new rooftop solar-leasing market industry has engaged in “deceptive marketing strategies” to sucker unsuspecting homeowners into misleading zero-money-down teaser loan deals. Many customers are unaware they must include these units in their homeowners insurance policies, the units may stop working long before the 20- to 30-year lease expires (and they are liable for maintenance and replacement of defective parts), and the solar companies may place a lien on the entire property, not just the solar equipment, making it more difficult to transfer ownership via sale. There are numerous other pitfalls, including a serious fire hazard from defective units.

What’s up with the prices at the pump?

Oil prices at the pump fell hard, then began creeping back up -- even though crude oil prices have not rebounded. One reason is an explosion at an ExxonMobil refinery in California that has bumped that state's price by 20 cents a gallon, but if the steelworkers union strike expands the impacts could grow . Meanwhile, the Saudis, who concocted the scheme that saw the dramatic drop in prices, are happy to see the rise in the price at the pump.

Carbon dioxide deserves gratitude, not disdain

Carbon dioxide levels are not at all high -- they have been much higher in the past. Indeed, we are very fortunate to be living at a time of relative warmth, rather than during a little or especially a full-on ice age. Some leading scholars believe we are on the verge of another cold period - one that would be exacerbated by any cuts in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. Meanwhile, demonizing this vital natural plant nutrient as pollution is not just absurd, it is anti-humanity.

EPA uses junk science to wage war on coal

The Obama Administration, through the corrupted Environmental Protection Agency, promised to kill the U.S. coal industry and they are already far along toward their goal. Along with it, they are wreaking havoc on the U.S. economy and threatening power outages of mammoth proportions. To justify this, they cite so-called scientific studies that are kept secret so that their findings cannot be easily challenged. But there's more -- other job-killing regulations also not backed by sound, peer reviewable science -- that will take the U.S. further away from long-term prosperity. Can this onslaught be stopped or even slowed down?
